A look at the highlights of the Tanglewood season for summer 2008.

Seminar No. 1: "An Epic Opera": Opening Night at Tanglewood!

Saturday, July 5, 2-4 pm and Sunday, July 6, 10-12 am
Price: $100 for 2-day seminar

Berlioz, Les Troyens. The most magnificent opera of the Romantic era, based on Virgil’s Aeneid and containing some of the most beautiful music Berlioz ever wrote. An in-depth preview of this great work for the weekend.

Seminar No. 2: "Mahler's Second"

Friday, July 11, 2-4 pm. and Saturday, July 12, 2-4 pm
Price: $100 for 2-day seminar

Mahler's Second Symphony ("Resurrection"). The most ambitious and powerful symphony in Western music. A look at the creation and the meaning of one of the great symphonic works on tap at Tanglewood.

Seminar No. 3: "The Romantics: Tchaikovsky, Schumann, and Mendelssohn"

Saturday, July 19, 2-4 pm. and Sunday, July 20, 10-12 am
Price: $100 for 2-day seminar

A famous musician and one who is about to become famous! The brilliant violinist Midori plays Tchaikovsky, and the new BSO assistant conductor Shi-Yeon Sung conducts Schumann and Mendelssohn in her debut with the orchestra. Get to know the works, and then go to the concerts and listen.

Seminar No. 4 "All Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Beethoven's Seventh"

Friday, July 25, 2-4 pm. and Saturday, July 26, 2-4 pm
Price: $100 for 2-day seminar

We’ll take a look at Brahms’s gorgeous Symphony No. 3 and powerful Piano Concerto No. 1 to be conducted by James Levine. Then for the Saturday concert we turn to the beloved Mendelssohn Violin Concerto and Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, his masterpiece in melody and rhythm.

Seminar No. 5: "Weekend of the Superstars: Renée Fleming and Yo-Yo Ma"

Saturday, August 2, 2-4 pm. and Sunday, Aug. 3, 10-12 am
Price: $100 for 2-day seminar

Renée Fleming sings in Tchaikovsky’s wonderful opera Eugene Onyegin, and Yo-Yo Ma plays the Lalo cello concerto. Get familiar with both these works, and get fully prepared for these superb artists this weekend.

Seminar No. 6 : "Why was there Nobody like Mozart? Seriously!"

Friday, August 8, 2-4 pm, Saturday, August 9, 2-4 pm, and Sunday, August 10, 10 am -12 pm
Price: $150 for 3-day seminar

All Mozart all the time at Tanglewood this weekend! Symphony Nos. 38 and 39, Piano Concerto No. 12 in A, a concerto each for horn, violin, and flute, two delicious concert arias, plus the sublime Sinfonia Concertante.
